With no wish to accidentally offend her in mispronouncing her surname, Cillian leads the introduction with a simple question. He'd approached her in her laboratory with none of his usual power of presence, Lugia's PRESSURE as absent as his own MIASMA.[break][break]

Given her prior negative experiences with his coworkers, in particular one BARNABY FINCH, Cillian thinks it's best not to come across as a threat.[break][break]

"Cillian Quinn." He's sure she knows. "I understand you specialize somewhat in the CORROSION ability."

Her hands move to place away a stack of papers, the office is barren this time of hour and the pair have little concern for being overheard. Those movements still utterly at the next words out of his mouth, however. Golden eyes sharply cut over to Cillian's figure and her expression blanks into a mask of neutrality.

"I beg your pardon?" Nenet asks, voice icy and body utterly rigid as she turns fully to face Cillian. This was hardly what she expected when the Underboss reached out for a meeting.

Cillian seems mildly surprised, though not intimidated by the sudden ice in Neffatari Nzingha's tone.[break][break]

"It seems you heard me just fine." He'd hit a nerve, clearly. He hadn't intended to; perhaps she wasn't accustomed to people doing their research before working with her. At least not the sort of thorough research undertaken by an underboss of Rocket. "If you're concerned I'm trying to blackmail you, don't be. I was actually hoping for your assistance."[break][break]

He leans against the wall, hands at his sides. Still unthreatening, but relaxed.

A subtle twist of emotion makes it way onto Nenet's expression, though otherwise she remains icy and rigid; Cillian had no reason to dig so deeply into her background, he simply had.

"I've been studying the toxins of Shadow Pokemon." Straight and to the point. "My Breloom has CORROSION, see, and I'd like to understand the risks before I experiment with it."[break][break]

Of course, Neffatari Nzingha is still stiff and stilted. That was hardly conducive to a scientific study.[break][break]

He's not accustomed to having to smooth things over with people these days. As an underboss, most simply folded to his whims. But there had been a time where he was the one forced to placate and plead.[break][break]

"I look into all my coworkers; it's nothing personal. And it's nothing to be ashamed of. I'm certainly not here because I was welcomed into the scientific community with open arms and no questions asked." When he smiles, his sharp canines gleam. "I found Rocket after my superiors in Galar decided that questionable ethics was a price too high to pay for brilliance. Their loss."

A barely-there narrowing of her eyes signifies Nenet is listening. She understood on some level why Cillian had done what he'd done - it was practical after all - but that hardly meant she appreciated the effort.

"I am not ashamed of my research," she answers levelly. Concern about her ability to continue in the public sphere was a wholly different animal, however.

Her interest was piqued though not discernibly at Cillian's mention of his own background. "Risks in regards to what," she finally asks, her curiosity winning out in place of caution. "What are you testing it on?" Her hands still in her lap as she looks over Cillian pointedly, from head to toe, as if assessing his question's merit.

"Most, not all, of my studies centred around Lunatone and Solrock resistances." There hadn't been much of a resistance at the end of the day but the ability of a Corrosive Pokemon had been something fascinating to behold.

She seems to relent somewhat when he mentions his own skeletons.[break][break]

"Myself, ideally."[break][break]

He is blunt as a hammer in his admission, as though it were no big deal. It was definitely a big deal.[break][break]

"I'd imagine I'm far different than a Pokemon," with an easy enough laugh, "but I thought you might be interested in the results all the same. And I'd trust your research has given you a fair idea of when to pull the plug, so to speak."[break][break]

He flashes a vial of ANTIDOTE. "Not a suicide mission, see. Just an attempt to build immunity."

Nenet's eyebrow arches sharply at Cillian's intended test subject. "That remains to be seen," comes her careful answer.

Hands folding together, and then fidgeting, she stands abruptly and murmurs with her decision made, "Come on, then." If he killed himself that was one less person to worry about holding her past over her head.

"Do you want to do this intelligently or recklessly," is what she asks as they make their way from her office. There was a first aid kit - and an AED - in the confides of Rocket's lab walls.

Though whether or not poisoning yourself in any capacity could be considered intelligent was certainly up for debate.[break][break]

He follows her without hesitation.[break][break]

"I've already informed declan walsh of my plan, in case there are complications." Sharp teeth gleam in the light as he smirks. "So, mm, keep that under advisory if you get any ideas while I'm indisposed."[break][break]

His tone is light, not unfriendly, almost enough to disguise the threat were it not so overt.[break][break]

He hands her the ANTIDOTE.

"Oh, well," Nenet answers breezily, acidly as they enter the lab, "If Walsh knows there goes my plans." She moves purposefully through the area, her hand motioning to a scale for Cillian to stand on as she takes the Antidote.

She records the number and then motions towards one of the chairs for him to take a seat.
[break][break]
A few phone calls later sees an assistant into the lab to place an IV into Cillian's arm. With that placed, Nenet explains, "We'll infuse a bit of the poison at a time and see how your body handles it." She places a glass beaker into his has as she instructs, "Have your Pokemon fill that with its poison."

The Antidote is drawn into a syringe and set nearby, and Nenet murmurs, "You're going to need to tell me how you feel as we proceed."

Cillian laughs, clearly unconcerned by how much he was rankling her.[break][break]

"Just a precaution, is all. I do value my continued existence."[break][break]

And by association with Zev Harcourt alone, she's earned his wariness. He trusts she wouldn't be foolish enough to try and remove him as an obstacle for Harcourt in such an overt way, but not enough to keep his silence.[break][break]

Enough, though, to follow instruction without complaint.[break][break]

His Breloom assumes a defensive stance the moment it's released, clearly expecting combat, but a gesture of Cillian's hand seems to calm the Shadow Pokémon. The MIASMA twists around the fungal boxer like a strange caress.[break][break]

He clicks his tongue with another gesture, specifies, "Aim it into this."[break][break]

The vial is filled.[break][break]

"Oh, I'm sure I'll be very clear. If I try to attack you, I apologize in advance. But if we take it slow, I think it should be fine."

Nenet momentarily eyes the Breloom warily based of its stance alone until the glassware is filled and she's relatively certain the Pokemon won't attack her. Cillian, on the other hand, proves the larger of two concerns as he offers a pre-emptive apology.

Well this should all be fun, shouldn't it?

Taking up the syringe, Nenet carefully pulls up a dose of the poison and connects it to the tubing. She frowns minutely, her free hand carefully tracing the lines until she's satisfied, and then says levelly to Cillian, "This won't feel good. If you start to feel dizzy, faint, or otherwise out of sorts let me know immediately."

With that warning spoken, she carefully pushes the plunger on the syringe and infuses a small amount of the poison.

Noting her cautious approach toward his Pokémon, Cillian assures, "They won't attack unless I order it."[break][break]

Which may or may not actually be reassuring, depending on how she interpreted his characteristically stoic demeanour. He doesn't intend to be threatening, this time, but a predator's teeth are just as threatening in a smile as a snarl.[break][break]

He chuckles humourlessly.[break][break]

"I don't expect it to."[break][break]

And it doesn't feel good. Though he remains largely composed at first, his expression pinching in mild discomfort as the first dose of venom slips into his bloodstream, his stoicism cannot hold long.[break][break]

"Fuck," is all he says at first, fingernails digging against his thigh. Remembering his promise to describe the effects, he grits out, "It burns. Like — more than—"[break][break]

He breaks off with a hissed intake of breath. He doesn't feel angry or exhilarated, as he often did with Nihilego's toxins. He just hurts.[break][break]

"I'm good," he says in spite of it, breathing heavy as he focuses on trying to adjust to the fire in his veins. They pop against taut muscle, rivers of purple against the palour of his skin. "Mm, just didn't expect it to be so intense. Guess it makes sense if the CORROSION is overriding whatever small immunity I might've — built up."[break][break]

He shudders, closing his eyes. "Little dizzy now," is confessed.

Nenet halts immediately at the expletive, her golden eyes cutting over to Cillian's face. He gives a stilted explanation of his feelings, and it's not until he promises he's 'good' that Nenet's hands move again.

Focused on the slow push of the toxin, her eyebrow arches slowly as his veins being to darken and his skin pales. A definite reaction to whatever immunity he does have, she continues to push the syringe's plunger until the oncoming confession.
[break][break]
Withdrawing her hands and detaching the toxin, she places the Antidote into the connector just in case and begins to assess Cillian. Taking his free arm into her hands, she pushes his sleeve up to examine his veins there. "Are you still dizzy," she asks. Some of the prominence of the veins has faded, but they're still easy enough to see.

"It may not be possible," Nenet states all of a sudden, her hands clasping together as she leans forwards to rest her elbows on her knees. "Immunity," she clarifies after a moment's pause.

"Do you want to keep going?"
